Day 15: Bonus Photo, HDR

7/25/10
"Patrick Marsh (HDR)"

This is my third attempt at an HDR. Again, I paid a lot of attention to my framing here, and though this image didn't turn quite turn into as in-your-face of an HDR image as I was actually hoping for, I think this turned out quite beautifully. This is a very understated and natural version of an HDR image of Patrick Marsh on the north end of Sun Prairie.

  1. Just a tip, in situations like this, where the sky is relatively clean, and uninteresting, unless there's a good artistic reason, more foreground is usually the better bet. That's just been my experience with this type of shot, but it doesn't always translate, especially if there's a lot of wind and th foreground is going to be all blurry and messy thanks to the multi-layering and sometimes slow shutter speed HDR calls for. I like the subtlety of this one, though. The light's beautiful. Gotta love those golden hours. Keep them coming!

  2. Thanks for the tip. I found the blank sky to be more interesting than the abundant and bland reeds in the front. I had already hiked the tripod on the hood of my car to get this photo, so I could see about the reeds and marsh grass, and there was quite a bit in the photo already. I do enjoy how this turned out as well. I really appreciate the tips though. This is all about getting better.
