"Ready to Climb"

I spent most of the day doing work (beyond the three hours spent at the Badger football game). One of these days I might just take my camera to the game, but I want to make sure its sunny with no chance of rain, and I don't want to be paranoid about it getting bumped all day either. Tonight I didn't have much time to get out, and it's been kind of overcast the last few days, so I decided to just take a picture of some of my climbing gear sitting on the back of my door, ready to be used whenever I have a chance. Sadly, with a mild injury and not a lot of time, it might be hanging there for a while.

"Battle of the Ages"

Fun comp, though not my best showing ever. All I can say is that I really wish I would have had my fast lens at this comp so I could have taken some better pictures. Not one came out without blur in the shot because it was just so dark in there. Great to get to climb at Adventure Rock and get on some longer routes. I'm not 100% for climbing yet though, so it was kind of sad, but it was still a great time with great people. Here we have Greg Padovani on a route on the overhang. I think it was a 5.12b or 5.12c. Not the easiest thing ever, for sure (hyperbole, its actually pretty hard).

"Problem Solving"

Today, for the second part of the Devil's Lake Camp and Climb weekend, JJ finally got Dylan and I up to the Dumpster Boulder for some tries at unlocking the slightly tricky Dumpster Diving. With a lot of other people that I would have rather let try the boulder, and only a short amount of time, I only gave this sequencey V3 a quick burn but for some reason couldn't stick the undercling to move on and finish it off. I'm sure it'll take another try or two, but some impressive sends were had by Dylan and JJ (who repeated after totally forgetting all the beta). Angie on the rock in this picture, who also got really really close, so close that it might take one more try for her too I'm sure. Not a hard problem when you unlock the sequence, but its something very Devil's Lake-esque in that regard, and just like any good boulder problem, this required a little "Problem Solving".

"Easy Overhang"

Today's photo is of my friend JJ leading Easy Overhang at Devil's Lake. He cruised it, it was fun to watch, and best of all, it was well lit for a great picture. It was easy enough to just walk up around to the top of the cliff band and take a photo from above. Hope you enjoyed.

"Schizophrenia"

Today I went out with some friends to climb at Governor Dodge State Park, near Dodgeville, WI. Though the day wasn't productive for climbing for me, Mike and Dylan got on a few things and I was able to get a few pretty good pictures. As for the conditions, it was again clear that a lens with a higher aperture than 3.5 f-stop at 18mm. I often found myself more likely to use a full wide angle shot than zoomed in, so a wide angle lens with a larger aperture would be great some day. For now though, I really do like what I came up with.

"The Project"

Another attempt at the faux HDR. This time it came out much nicer, and I spent more time getting Jeremy's body properly layered. My only problem, in my mind, is the framing. I wanted to capture movement and intensity, but the hand was just out of where I would liked to have framed it, and his head was a bit more blurred than I wanted also. A slight side note, is that I did this all by hand, no auto-select tool usage. In hindsight, it would have gone a lot quicker had I done that.

"Divergent Crack"

This was my first attempt at faux-HDR. Blending of the layers could have been better, but I had already spent an hour just getting the image this far. I'm sure I will have better shots to work with in the future.
