Day 52

8/31/10
"Capitol from the Rooftop (HDR)"

Today I went up to the porch on the fourth floor of my new apartment building with the intention of shooting a panorama of the city. I again had a little trouble with my panorama shoot but came out with a great HDR photo.

Bonus Shot: Memorial Union Bash 8/30

I decided to post a photo that I spent significant time editing today. Its an HDR shot (again, High Dynamic Range. I might do a little write up on so you can understand a bit better, but basically, our eyes perceive shadows and highlights simultaneously, which a camera cannot do without multiple exposures, which is what I've done here). Hope you enjoy, and as always you can click for a larger view. This looks great blown up full size.

"Buckyzilla! (HDR"

Day 51

8/30/10
"Windsurf at Sunset"

I had the great opportunity to shoot some action at the Memorial Union tonight while they had the MU Bash. Out of a lot of good shots, as well as two or three good HDRs that I spent significant time layer masking, my favorite shot of the evening was just a quick grab without a tripod or filter and very little messing with tones in post processing. Definitely a good one for a background on a computer.

Day 50

8/29/10
"Ride the Drive"

I didn't get a chance to take a picture of Lance Armstrong up close, or get an autograph, but I got to suck his wheel for a few miles as we rode around Madison. The crowd beforehand was pretty awesome, and I got a few pictures capturing how many people turned out. I liked this picture because of the action in the foreground with the people in the background. Right in front of me what a pretty eccentric guy who was biking to Australia. Not sure I completely understand, but interesting nonetheless.

Day 49

8/28/10
"Light Reading"

Nothing too interesting to photograph today, so I decided to take a picture of what I was reading today for fun. A couple Foreign Affairs journals and some old text books on my favorite subjects.

Day 48

8/27/10
"Life on the Road"

I find that I really relax when I'm traveling, particularly when I get to drive. However, today I learned that when I get to sit back and enjoy the ride, I also get to take pictures. Todays shot is from a drive to Madison from Green Bay, here, right before Rosendale.

Day 47

8/26/10
"The Difference Between You and I? You have an NFL Vest"

I found it kind of funny that todays best picture of someone probably about my age, doing mostly what I was doing (taking pictures of tailgating) but in a more professional capacity, and yet it didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. She was a good unexpecting photo subject.

Day 46

8/25/10
"Filtering In"

Not the most inspired shot, but it was cool to see the hustle and bustle of everyone slowly filtering back in to campus for the school year. Double entendre of the fact that I spent some time dialing in the polarizer filter between something that was a bit to harsh and something that wasn't enough.

Day 45

8/24/10
"Downtown Dirt Road"

Today I have an HDR image that I took outside my new apartment. I really enjoy HDR, and the level of realism and surrealism that you can create from any given set of three images. I actually took the time to go through and do layer masks and take out certain parts that didn't blend well in Photomatix. I think it turned out great, and deserves a look at the larger image.

Day 44

8/23/10
"A Simple Question of Weight Ratios"

I was surprised how close these birds let me get to them before they flew away. I don't have a long zoom lens, but in my opinion, I got a great shot anyway.

Sunday, August 22, 2010

Day 43

8/22/10
"Turf War"

I wandered around today in search of something a little different, a side of Madison you probably wouldn't normally see.

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Day 42

8/21/10
"Jazz Box"

Another day of moving, another day of laziness, another picture from my room. This time, a little selective focus manually for a picture of my guitar and amp set up.

Friday, August 20, 2010

Day 41

8/20/10
"Black and White Collar"

Tonight I again didn't have much time as I moved in and had to unpack, but some friends dropped by and we watched White Collar on my computer in my new room. Good times, and I decided to try playing with greyscale.

Day 40

8/19/10
"Sleepy Bunny"

I've been pretty busy today. With all my packing I didn't have much time to go out and hunt anything interesting down but I did "hunt" a little something down in my own backyard. Just a few days ago these bunnies had no fur and their eyes wouldn't even come close to opening. Today they were hopping around in their little burrow.

Day 39

8/18/10
"Bouquet"

Today I went out with my grandparents to the Green Bay Farmers Market and wandered around shooting photos. Most of what I took were flowers and vegetables, and this is my best result. I don't have much more to say. Enjoy!

Bonus Shots: Packers Training Camp 8/17

Here are a LOT of photos that I took with that great Nikkor 80-200mm lens yesterday at Packers Training Camp.
